Commander's Corner

Commander John Carson

Many years ago, we took an oath to guard and protect our great nation. We have continued with this oath to serve, protect, and assist those veterans that gave more than others. The veterans in need. To quote a saying, "All gave some, some gave all.”

Since the VFW started in Columbus Ohio in 1899 giving support to the returning warriors from the Spanish American War, the VFW has continued to honor and offer assistance to all veterans.

I am your elected District Commander, placed in a leadership role. I have an outstanding team willing to work. I believe in the word, "synergy”. I will do my best to reach the goals of the VFW, that of helping veterans in need.

We ALL must continue to do our parts to achieve these goals. So, roll up your sleeves, get off the easy-chair, and join us. I am taking the path least traveled. It will be work, yet it will be rewarding. Join me.

Phil enlisted in the Army in 1965 where you served for years in Vietnam. He became a graphic designer and has worked for the state of Oregon for 26 years. He retired in 2003 and started the Cartoon "In-Country". The cartoons reflect his experiences during his tour of duty in South Vietnam.
